Audio-Technica recently expanded their range of QuitePoint Active Noise Cancelling (ANC) Headphones in India, one of the new entries to the lineup was the ATH-ANC50iS. It is the value-priced one out of the new range according to their press release.
And we have been fiddling around with them for a couple of weeks now, so here is our review.
The headphones come with an airline adapter, AAA battery and a zippered protective pouch, which by the way also has a small pocket to hold the detachable cable so that they don’t end up scratching or damaging the headphones. The airline adapter will be extremely useful since many people would be using these during a flight to cancel out those in-flight noises.

Like our last review, I have tried to keep this review very simple by answering a few questions a buyer might have before making their buying decision. Do share your feedback about this format in the comments.
The Noise Cancellation
The Active noise-cancelling headphones cancel the environmental noise by creating a 180° noise erasing wave and thus the listener only gets to hear the music they want to listen. So they turn out to be very useful in noisy environments like flights, public places, cafés etc.
We tried these at a gym and on a flight and the noise-cancellation worked like a charm. And can vouch for Audio-Technica’s promise that these can cancel up to 87% environmental noises.
The Bass output from these is just mind-boggling, it’s so good that it can hurt your ears if used at higher volumes. And the music may also sound muffled at higher volumes but that’s a characteristic that is observed in many ANC headphones.
The Build Quality
A good build quality is something one expects when they are paying such a premium and these surely live up to expectations, and not just the headphones but the cable and all the other in-box accessories are made of high-quality materials.
The detachable cable gives them the highly portable status and the fact that they can lay flat adds to the ease of carrying. This might look so obvious but one needs to understand that this is not always possible for making headphones of this size.
What’s not so good?
The ear-cups are a tad bit smaller and thus cause some discomfort for people with big ears so I hope Audio-Technica takes a note of this and improves this in the next iteration of these headphones.
The noise-cancellation circuitry cannot be powered by just the power from audio jacks so they come with an AAA battery for that purpose. If these were powered by a lithium-ion battery the convenience factor would be at least 30% higher.
They cancel the noise for the listener but fail to avoid the leakage, which might cause trouble to the people sitting near you if you are listening to your banging tracks.
Where can you buy these?
Audio-Technica has priced the ATH-ANC 50iS at ₹7,990 and according to the press release they have an exclusive partnership with Amazon so currently, they are available only at Amazon. At the time of writing this article Amazon.in is selling them at a discounted price of ₹7,191, click here to buy it now or to save it for later.
ATH-ANC 50iS does an excellent job at being a noise-cancellation headphone and should undoubtedly be on your shopping list if noise-cancellation is your priority but definitely, you can buy a better headphone if noise-cancellation is not your topmost priority, Audio-Technica themselves offer a pretty wide range of headphones at this price point.
